Oh my gosh – when I came across this list of the Top 20 self-sabotaging Behaviors I had to get real with myself and take a serious inventor of how my actions (or lack of action) could be signs of self-sabotage. Who knew there were so many ways to “shoot yourself in the foot”!!

I would love to say that I’m above these behaviors or that I’ve cleared all of my garbage about money and success and change – but alas, I’m still working on it.

See how many of these behaviors you’ve experienced in the last 30 days –

Procrastinated

Overindulged in eating, drinking, or spending

Acted impulsively and didn’t consider the consequences

Got distracted or lost focus

Skipped exercising

Ate poorly

Took on too many things

Ignored or minimized problems in relationships, job, or health

Held unrealistic expectations

Was too critical or judgmental of myself or others

Needed help but didn’t ask for it

Rushed through things

Obsessed over a trip, purchase, or other decision

Overestimated the risks of something bad happening

Worried too much

Didn’t finish what I started

Failed to assert my needs, rights, or desires

Took something too personally

Talked myself into something and regretted it

Postponed pleasure unnecessarily

Okay, so you probably saw somethings you were doing that are probably getting in the way of you having the success you want, of you having the relationships you want, of you having the abundance you want. Here’s the good news – there’s a way to rid yourself of the old baggage that keeps you in the “self sabotaging cycle”!!

UK EFT Master, Jaqui Crooks is presenting her infamous workshop

“Disarming Self Sabotage” in her first appearance in Colorado on September 10th & 11th.

Imagine having two full days of tapping, of discovering, of clearing outdated beliefs and rules that are at the root of self sabotaging behaviors!!!

Every morning, before your feet even hit the floor, you have set the tone for your success. You have already determined how hard you will have to work “today” in order to achieve higher goals, bigger dreams, and a better life. Hard to believe? You bet it is. But it is true.

The moment you engage in your awakened state, you begin emitting an energy about you that either attracts or repels what you say you want; thus determining how hard you are going to have to work to turn the ship around once you begin experiencing the effects. If your immediate disposition is one of angst, disappointment, frustration, or doubt, the bioenergetics of this have no choice but to create that reality for you right in your own home, and right in your own endeavors in the world – such a your work. You find yourself swimming upstream all the time, fighting the fight, rising to the occasion, pushing, driving, and “making” it all turn out.

If, by contrast, your first breath each day is one of celebration of what you are learning about yourself in the face of every event, and how you are discovering your capacity to transmute all circumstances into something that serves your dreams toward manifesting (no exceptions), then the rest of your “day” will absolutely align with that as well. You get to choose. And the energy will follow.

Everything is energy and it is all vibrating at different frequencies. And the thoughts you think generate certain specific frequencies. Some frequencies resonate with a “Yes,” and some resonate with a “No Thank You.” The first definitely attracts success, while the other sets you up for a great exercise in discovering what you’re made of. If you are waking up frustrated every day, you can certainly recognize that you are not putting it all together in the way that you are destined to just yet. But it’s ok, you will. The question is, when?

The best way for this to happen Now is to begin to wake up intentionally. Not just with a determination to have it be a positive day no matter what, but with a “tending inward” as well. Being present with yourself, allowing yourself to become aware of what you are feeling internally and breathing a patient presence into it, allows the energy frequency to begin to shift, even if your circumstances have not, yet. With this, a doorway opens.

This doorway is the doorway to the subconscious. Your success is determined by your subconscious mind, not your conscious mind, (otherwise we would all be living our biggest dreams already by simply consciously choosing to do so). We determine our disposition in the morning somewhat automatically and unconsciously. But we can begin to have that happen with conscious intention. And that is the key. We have to feel our way to success, not just think about it, dream about it, and push the river to make it happen. We have to bring a patient and kind and even loving presence to what we are feeling at any given moment in order to release from the subconscious the blockage that are held there that are keeping us from automatically waking up in an “embracing what is” disposition that beckons success. Resonate with your own authenticity and watch the world step up to assist you. It will, for that is the energy the sustainable world is made of. And that is what we call success.

Growing yourself can be more simple than you think. So simple, the mind would never think of it. Now then, put your feet to the floor with THAT in mind!

by Dr. Joe Rubino

Studies show that at least 85% or more of the world’s people suffer from some degree of lacking self-esteem. Although one might think that such challenges are only characteristic of the poor, uneducated, or lower socio-economic members of society, people from all walks of life can suffer situational or more widespread challenges with their levels of self-esteem.

Many very successful business people lack self-esteem in some areas of their lives. Perhaps they feel socially challenged or they have difficulty establishing close or intimate relationships. Perhaps they experience low self-esteem with regard to their physical appearance or their health. Perhaps they are not having any fun in their lives, maybe devoting too much attention to their work. Many “successful” people are driven to succeed. They compensate for feeling deficient in other areas of their lives by working harder and finding a place they can excel through their work. This provides them with a new focus where they can win but it doesn’t fulfill their neglected needs in other areas like relationships, recreation, personal and spiritual development, health and appearance, and their ability to lead balanced, fun, and fulfilling lives.

Many of those lacking self-esteem in other areas find themselves driven to accomplish, driven to prove their worth. Since business is an area where they can shine, they neglect other areas to focus excessively on business.

However, since their actions are built upon the erroneous belief that they are somehow not good enough, somehow defective or unworthy of being fully loved and accepted, there is little lasting satisfaction even in the arenas where they can excel. It’s as though they are climbing a ladder with the top of the ladder in the clouds. They think that if they can just climb high enough, they will be successful. They will have proven their worth. They will find satisfaction, happiness, and fulfillment. However, as they climb higher and higher, they never seem to arrive. There are always new goals and objectives challenging them to prove their worth. The more they achieve, the more they have yet to go. Try as they will, they never seem to fully measure up. Or, if they do, it is short-lived and fleeting at best. There is no arriving to the point where they find what they long for so badly ‒ the peace of mind that comes from self-love and self-acceptance.

Because the foundation of their ladder is grounded on quicksand, they often find themselves sinking as rapidly as they climb. In fact, from their perspective, they will never reach the perfection they seek so badly. They will always find evidence to highlight their flaws and reinforce their fears of being unworthy, unlovable, defective in some way.

No one needs to settle for a dimmed existence due to a lacking sense of self-worth. If our energy is spent by being preoccupied with our weaknesses or being incomplete with our past, we can never be fully present to today and so we sacrifice our true potential to bring about a result.

Our relationships suffer as we will misinterpret the words and actions of others in a way that invalidates us and has us feel badly about who we are. We may be so driven to prove we are good enough that we sacrifice our personal effectiveness and charisma by focusing on ourselves and our deficiencies rather than on the wants and needs of others. We may play small and hide out in social situations or whenever the possibility of looking bad or “being found out” comes up for us. Or, we may overcompensate and turn to workaholic tendencies out of a desire to prove our worth to others or to ourselves. Because of this misdirected focus, we trade our ability to impact others maximally and to best contribute our gifts to the world.

The answer to escaping the vicious cycle of lacking self-esteem, diminished confidence, and the never-ending, frustrating quest for fulfillment lies in the 3-step process I lay out in detail in The Self-Esteem Book. The process starts with healing one’s past so that it no longer robs us of energy and consumes our attention. Once the pull of past ghosts is complete, we can then turn our attention to properly analyzing our present state of affairs. We can identify what’s working in our lives and what’s missing to support living an upset-free life in choice, a life that honors our most important values and inspires us to live passionately.

And finally, we can take that magic wand that is our birthright, wave it over our lives, and design our future deliberately. We can choose to do so in a way that excites us, as we cast off that gloomy state of low self-esteem, unhealthy resignation, and self-pity that no longer supports us. We can live with the intention to honor our God-given magnificence and lead happy, fulfilled lives that fully contribute to others as we share our gifts with the world.

Do you put off doing things that would bring you closer to your desired goals? I know I do. But why are we so foolish?

It has something to do with how our daily responsibilities overwhelm us. In the midst of all the important things we know we need to do, we somehow convince ourselves that none of these things need to be done right now. In other words, we decide that some peace and relaxation in the short term is what’s most important.

So we take another break, read another blog post, watch another TV show and just kick back and relax. And life is blissfully dandy… for a little while.

But then suddenly the inevitable deadline has arrived. Ahhh! It’s panic time!

So here are 7 common causes and proven cures procrastination. I’m hoping these tips help you avoid that insane moment of panic.

1. Fear of the outcome

Sometimes we’re afraid we’ll fail. Sometimes we’re subconsciously afraid we’ll succeed and then we’d have to deal with all the disruption (growth) and change that follows success. And other times it’s our fear of rejection or simply our fear of looking like a fool.

The best way I’ve found to defeat fear is to stare it down. Connect to your fear, feel it in your body, realize it and steadily address it. Greet it by name if you have to: “Welcome, fear.”

If you are conscious of it, soon it becomes shy, hangs its head, and mooches off, scraping one shoe on the ground.

2. Helplessness in the face of complexity

We look at a task at hand and feel intensely un-resourceful. It may remind us of something we had to do when we were younger, before we had the skills to conquer it (even though that’s no longer the case). Or it may actually be a daunting task at our current skill level. Either way, the task seems far too complex, so we try to avoid it.

This time the solution is to break it down. Take that complex task and break it down to its bare essential components and then tackle each one of those components one at a time.

Sometimes it’s also helpful to recall one of your previous successes with conquering a complex task just to get yourself in a positive mindset. Think of a time you were really on top of things, achieving great results – when you were in the zone. Close your eyes and place yourself in that memory with all your senses.

3. Rebellion and laziness

We resent the task in front of us. We feel imposed upon. “I have to do this,” we think to ourselves. “But I don’t have to do it now.”

Rebellion is about control. We assert our control by choosing when (or whether) to do the task.

A friend of mine whose home-schooled son is very rebellious came up with a clever hack. She said, “We’re going to do what kids who are in school do. You’re going to sit and do school work for 8 hours a day.” Her son rebelled, naturally. When the rebellion was in full effect, my friend offered an alternative. “Or, we could do this home-school style. If you finish early, we can go somewhere fun.” And her son worked more productively than ever.

So when you notice yourself feeling rebellious and lazy about a task, think of a way to reward yourself for getting it done now. Also, remind yourself of the consequences of not doing it.

4. Lack of motivation

I procrastinate doing my tax return. It’s an administrative task and I don’t like it. But it helps when I think about it this way: “I’m due a refund this year.” When I concentrate on the amount of money I get back versus the time it takes to do my taxes, it’s an excellent hourly rate. And it motivates me to focus on getting it done.

That by itself wasn’t quite concrete enough, though. So I promised myself a reward: out of the refund, I would buy myself a kayak – something I’d been thinking about for awhile to help me get back in shape.

The basic principle is reframing. If you know the job has to be done but it’s not emotionally important to you, find a way to make it important. (If I was going to be paying a penalty fee for turning my taxes in late, I could set aside the equivalent amount of the penalty for a reward, for example.)

What are you going to get by doing this that’s important enough to motivate you to do it now?

5. Lack of focus and fatigue

Distractions are everywhere. You must learn to ignore them.

Minimize distractions by secluding yourself. Disconnect the Internet and power off your cell phone if you have to. Check e-mail and voicemail at set intervals instead of randomly every few minutes. Find a quiet space where you can concentrate on the task at hand. And only take breaks as a reward for accomplishing smaller sub-tasks.

Also, it’s hard to focus when you’re fatigued. So get enough sleep, eat healthy and exercise regularly.

6. Not knowing where or how to start

Or maybe the task just looms in front of you as a big block, like a building with no doors. You walk around its perimeter and you don’t immediately see a way in. How do you get in? Where do you begin? You can’t figure it out, so you set the task aside.

I’m creating a course on procrastination. It started out as one of those buildings with no doors. “How do I even start designing a course like that?” I thought.

Well, I wrote down a few reasons why people procrastinate (the starting point). I thought about reasons why you’d want to stop (the end point or goal). Once something has a beginning and an end, it’s a lot easier to start seeing the middle. And usually you can work from both ends until you meet in the middle. Each of those reasons is a topic. And each of those topics has a start and an end, and so on and so forth.

So don’t give up. Uncover the starting and ending points and start filling in the blanks one at a time.

7. Perfectionism

One of the best bits of advice ever about perfectionism comes from Melody Beattie’s book Codependent No More. “It just doesn’t matter,” she says. “IT JUST DOESN’T MATTER!”

But that’s hard advice to put into practice sometimes. I’ve often put off implementing ideas by using the excuse that I’m not yet prepared to do the idea justice. Some part of me thinks I’ll end up wasting the idea by implementing it poorly at my current level of skill.

But guess what? My current level of skill isn’t going to increase unless I practice. And I can’t practice until I implement. And that means I have to implement with my current level of skill, make mistakes, learn from them and press on.

So in reality, not implementing that idea right now is the only true way to waste it.

And guess what else? There are plenty of additional ideas and variations I haven’t thought of yet, and most of them won’t come to me until I’ve started implementing and making mistakes. It’s impossible to steer a parked car.

Conclusion

By taking the time and initiative to understand your own reasons for procrastinating, and devoting a little energy to take the necessary steps to move forward, you can beat procrastination. We all can.

In fact, simply writing this article was a testament to this. I kept procrastinating on writing it because I lacked focus. So I locked myself in my den, eliminated all distractions, kept the end in mind and started writing. And as usual, starting was the hardest part. Now I’m done.

Today I want to share with you a fascinating video
with Bruce Lipton on how your thoughts can make you
you sick, broke and unhappy, if you don’t know how
to control them properly…

Bruce Lipton is a cellular biologist who has spent
years studying how our thoughts effect us in all
areas of life.

His scientific studies are so shocking and revealing
and have such wide ranging ramifications that the
established communities have gone to great lengths
to keep them hidden, especially the medical community.

Bruce Lipton has out-right said that the majority of
medical studies done today are inaccurate and
misleading and he has the proof to show why.

If you’re ready for some mind blowing information
on how your thoughts effect all areas of your life
then I highly suggest watching this video:

I continue to be amazed how lessons come to us in many forms and through a variety of vehicles. Today’s “aha” insight came during my yoga class. As we laid in stillness at the beginning of class we were instructed to survey the body and to ask ourselves “Where or what wants to move? How does it want to move?”

We were then instructed to “listen”. Listen to what is calling us and is needing attention. Then listen again for the action that would satisfy the need.

Action is the manifestation of stillness

We might call this type of action “inspired action”. It’s action that originate from within us, as opposed to actions that are generated by a “to do list” or from some book you read that said you “should” be doing these things. Now we really don’t have the luxury of doing only the things we feel inspired to do! But what if we started to take the time to ask a better question and then listen for the inspired answer? Would you be willing to take that action? How would it feel when you’ve taken actions that come with ease? What if that made all the difference?

A Call to Action: Take 5 minutes each day, preferably at the beginning of the day, and sit quietly. Allow yourself to get caught up in watching the breath move in-and-out-in-and-out. When your mind as slowed down ask what actions would you take today that would feel good. Just breath and listen. Your answers might be very different than you imagined – you could hear that you need to get some rest or to eat oatmeal for breakfast or to wear something blue today. At first you might think about dismissing those suggestions but the more you honor your inner voice the more it will speak to you.

Until next time…have the best day ever.
